Interestingly, but not surprisingly, the revamped 2012 Audi A6 passed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test with flying colors. Actually, the all new Audi A6 did so well on the test that the car was then awarded an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" title.
On the sedan's performance in the roof strength section of the analysis, the IIHS reported, "In the Institute's roof strength evaluation, the roof of the A6 withstood a force equal to 4.9 times the car's weight..."2
To reinforce how impressive its performance was, the Audi A6 sedan scored .9 points higher than what the IIHS considers a "good' rating, 3.4 points more than what the current federal mandate, and 1.1 points higher than the 2011 Audi A6, which exhibits substantial year-over-year improvement.
The new Audi A6 also displayed similar exceptional performance beyond just the roof strength section of the IIHS safety screening. Like any IIHS Top Safety Pick, the revitalized Audi A6 earned top "good" ratings for every test section, including front- , side-, rear- and rollover crash tests.
